Cedar Rapids is a Great Place to Live

January 13, 2014

In past blogs, I’ve recommended the manufactured housing lifestyle with its planned communities, abundant green space, on-site management and friendly neighborhoods.  Now, let’s focus on why a manufactured home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa is the perfect choice.

Cedar Rapids has a population of 125,000 and is the second largest metropolitan area in Iowa.  Unlike many other cities in the Midwest, Cedar Rapids continues to grow. Cedar Rapids’ unemployment rate is 5.4%, compared to 5.9% for all of Iowa and 7% nationwide.  The city’s popular mayor, Ron Corbett, has been a driving influence in the growth of business and jobs.  And Cedar Rapids (or “C.R.” as we locals call it) isn’t stopping to take a breath anytime soon.  “We’ve put our foot on the gas pedal,” says Mayor Corbett, “and I’m not interested in taking our foot off the pedal, and I’m certainly not interested in tapping the brakes.”

Since the flood of 2008, Cedar Rapids has opened a number of new buildings as part of the flood recovery.  These include a new library, convention center, central fire station, riverfront amphitheater, renovated downtown city hotel, arena and bus depot. Cedar Rapids has in the works a proposed downtown casino, westward extension of Highway 100 and extensive renovations of Westdale Mall.  All of this means plenty of job opportunities for you plus a fun, active place to live.

Others in the country have noticed Cedar Rapids’ success:

·         In October, 2013 Cedar Rapids was ranked #1 in Iowa and #29 nationwide as a “Top 100 Best Place to Live” by livability.com.

·         In November, Cedar Rapids ranked #9 of 100 cities as the “Top 10 Best Places to Retire” by livability.com.

·         In December, Cedar Rapids was #9 in the nation for best mid-sized city to move to by Moveto.com’s real estate blog.
