What's your MH IQ?

Think you know everything about our type of housing because you heard it in a country song?  Well, smarty pants, try the test below.

1 Trailers, mobile homes and manufactured homes all refer to the same thing.

2 What year was the first “manufactured home” built?

  1. 1945

  2. 1951

  3. 1964

  4. 1976

3 Manufactured homes in Iowa are regulated by:

  1. Iowa Building Code Bureau

  2. US Department of Housing and Urban Development

  3. Iowa Department of Public Safety

  4. All of the above.

4 The minimum amount of time it takes from applying for a manufactured home loan to walking into your new home is:

  1. 1 day

  2. 7 days

  3. 30 days

  4. 60 days

5 What are manufactured homes called in Europe?

  1. Trailers

  2. Caravans

  3. Casitas

  4. Not Applicable – There are no manufactured home-type dwellings in Europe

  1. False. There are distinct use, style, legal and construction differences in these three types of housing.

  2. (d) 1976.  On June 15, 1976, Congress passed the Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards Act.  This set higher standards for construction of factory-built dwellings.  Prior to this, factory-built homes were called “mobile homes”.  After this date, the new, improved homes were called “manufactured homes”.

  3. (d) All of the above.  In the 1960s and 1970s, mobile home dealers were considered disreputable.  Since that time, federal, state and local governments, with the assistance of reputable mobile home retailers like Hames Homes, have implemented sensible oversight and licensing.

  4. (b) 7 days.  Most Hames manufactured homes are move-in ready.  However, if you’re getting a loan for your new manufactured home, Truth in Lending Act (TILA) requires a 7 day waiting period from loan-approval to loan-closing.

  5. (b) Caravans.  There are a few factory-built homes in Europe, and most are used for vacationing.
