West Branch, Iowa is Going to the Dogs

October 16, 2014

Our furry, four-legged, best friends are discovering what many of us humans have known for some time; West Branch, Iowa is a great place to live!  The birthplace of our 31st President, West Branch, Iowa has an amazing history that can be experienced first-hand as you stroll the sidewalks of historic Main Street. A short 8 mile drive from Iowa City, via Interstate 80, will have you in one of Iowa’s favorite cities.

With almost 800 students in the West Branch school system, you can be sure most of them will be at Bear Field on football Friday night cheering their team on to victory!  The family atmosphere that is felt immediately in this city might be because there is one elementary, one junior high, and one high school where students and parents have made life long relationships.

But that’s not all. West Branch is home to incredible industry.  Acciona Windpower chose West Branch to build the first ever North American “wind turbine generator engineering and assembly” plant in 2007.  This plant, along with facilities owned by companies such as Proctor and Gamble, Wausau, and Plastic Products, just to name a few, offer a variety of employment opportunities to the residents of West Branch, Iowa.

To make this welcoming town even more amazing… drum roll please…a new, fully-equipped outdoor DOG PARK!

The canine-inviting, landscaped Dog Park covers approximately an acre and a half on the north side of West Branch, and is a pooches dream!  This fantastic new dog park offers a perfect opportunity for your Fido to exercise and meet new puppy pals! But, best of all, the new Dog Park is right next to West Branch Village Mobile Home Park.

West Branch Village, and its parent company Hames Communities LLC, gladly donated money, supplies, and materials to help make this new canine recreation area a reality.  Volunteers constructed shelters, fencing and signage. The area’s Boy Scouts, including West Branch Village’s own Eagle Scout and employee, Cody Miller, built the benches for the play area. While your dog is running and playing, you can sit and relax on a quality Cody Miller built bench!

“Our family loves animals, and in particular dogs, and when we were approached to support this project [Dog Park], we couldn’t say yes fast enough,” said Curt Hames. “Let’s get it done.”

Make sure to bring your canines and visit the West Branch dog park.  It’s open from dawn until dusk year ‘round.  And while you’re at it, take a tour through West Branch Village at 157 Powell Street, West Branch, Iowa 52358
